1 Corinthians 12:4-11

Tongues is a supernatural ability to speak an unknown language that is heavenly or earthly

Three main expressions of tongues

Personal prayer language

1 Corinthians 14:5 - All spoke in tongues

1 Corinthians 14:15-18 - Paul spoke in tongues more than all of them

Romans 8:26-28 - Holy Spirit prays for & through us according to the will of God

Strengthens us spiritually – Jude 1:20 & 1 Corinthians 14:4

Examples: Acts 10:45&46, Acts 19:6

Ministry tongue – Acts 2:5-12

Prophetic tongue – 1 Corinthians 14:2&6

Message from the Holy Spirit for the unbeliever, revealing their heart

Gift of Interpretation – Supernatural revealing of the general meaning of an utterance in tongues

Prophecy – Supernatural utterance in a known language. - 1 Corinthians 14:1-5 & 15-19

Conclusion – 1 Corinthians 14:39-40
